She sang to me the song I've written above. When she finished I heard her say, "I want you to call yourself my Priestess from now on and I am going to send you all my ancient Priestesses for you to heal."

I asked her, "What is a Priestess exactly?"

She said, "These are the women chosen by the Mother Goddess to heal her children."

"What happened to them all?" I asked.

She said, "They were all killed."

"Why?"

She answered, "Because Priestesses taught the masses how to prosper from their natural talents and abilities and there's no room for slavery in that world."

I asked her, "What is your name?"

"My name is Vera." She said.

Then she disappeared.

I got up and immediately got my book on Hindu Gods and Goddesses and looked up Vera. I knew Vera meant "Truth" in Greek but she was clearly Indian. I could not find a Goddess named Vera in the book so I set the book down on my bed and it just opened itself up to a chapter on Laksmi, The Goddess of Fame and Fortune. Under the name Laksmi it said, "When she is depicted with Lotus flowers she is known as "Vera Laksmi."

Well the Holy Roman Empire happened and we were wiped off the face of the earth. The Priestesses of the Goddess were the only threat to the power hungry men of the ever-growing Roman Empire which in my opinion eventually became the Church of Rome and my nemesis the Pope.

We tried to get along with the Romans but every time we got burned.

During the Inquisition with the Pope's blessing, the Church of Rome set out to completely annihilate "Witches" because of one line written in the Bible, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Originally the word actually meant "Seer" in Hebrew and was later changed to Witch.

Millions of women died from hideous torture, hangings and being burned alive. As many as 6000 women at a time were burned at the stake. Entire villages were wiped out of their female population. Other villages became economically viable just from building stakes to burn witches. Then there were the countless mass suicides, a much less painful end than the inquiry of an inquisitor.

What is a witch according to the Church of Rome? Devil worshippers, but take the L off of Devil and you have Devi which means Goddess in Sanskrit. Anything having to do with the feminine divine principal became demonized while the masculine became deified.

If you loved nature and animals, you were a witch.
If you could heal with your hands, you were a witch.
If you understood the healing qualities of herbs, you were a witch.
If you could see the future, you were a witch.
If you understood the movement of the planets you were a witch.
If you communicated with spirits you were a witch
And if you were a witch, you were dead.

But what is not written in the history books is that the persecution of witches was really the persecution of powerful independent women who were the landowners because property was handed from Mother to daughter. This is the basis of a Matriarchal society. The reason was simple. You knew who your Mother was without question.

In order for Patriarchal societies to be firmly established where property was handed from Father to son, all females had to be virgins at marriage and if you weren't. . .you might as well be dead.
